  This census later indicated to Pastor Allen Cook that nearly 500 people came to Bethlehem that evening.
  
  Once past the census, visitors headed along a dark hallway and were told they were passing over rocky terrain on the road to their destination.
  
  When they arrived, the Roman-guarded tax collector relieved people of a portion of their money and demanded to know where they were from.All the while, the Romans and townsfolk exchanged hard words, threatening banter and dirty looks.
  
  Once in Bethlehem, guests could take a look at the tent of the three Magi, who had come looking for the new King.

  At the end of the caravan's trip, Pastor Cook, dressed as a local, said a few words of prayer.
  
  Cook said he was overwhelmed by the turn out and pleased at how it all went off so well."It's been just wonderful," he said.
  
  Organizer Jan Butterfield said the evening was as she hoped - a large-scale performance that could teach and entertain, as well as provide families with an oasis of calm in the chaos of the holidays.
  
  "You just have a vision of what you want it to be and just pray it turns out that way," she said.
  
  Butterfield said she hopes to make it bigger and better each year, with the help of volunteers.
  
  The whole thing cost close to $3,000 to orchestrate, which organizers hope to recoup through donations.
  
  The volunteerism this year was already incredible to behold, according to Butterfield.
