MONTREAL.- Award-winning filmmaker Jenna Constantine of Chicago will launch the Canadian debut of the documentary film "The Spirit of Chicago Greeks: Alive in '05" to a gathering of prominent dignitaries in Winnipeg Oct. 29 commemorating the historic Greek holiday of Oxi Day.

The cultural holiday recalls the moment on Oct. 28, 1940 when the Greek Prime Minister was told to surrender to the fascist forces of Benito Mussolini. The minister's answer was "oxi" which means simply "no."

The Greeks then valiantly fought off the Italians forcing the Germans to send in massive supplies sparking the ultimate defeat of Adolf Hitler and the Third Reich.

"Oxi Day is celebrated each year to recall the Greek soldiers who gave their lives to the cause of freedom," Constantine said.
