  The Authors Guild now supports the Google Books Search in accordance with the terms of the settlement, said to Jan Constantine, general counsel of the Authors Guild. The settlement creates more restricted options than the original Google Books Search would have, which will in turn create more revenue for authors and publishers.
  
  "We feel that the settlement agreement is a good result and is establishing, going forward, new revenue exchange for our authors and publishers," Constantine said.

  Ms. Constantine has been with News America since 1991, working principally with the News America Marketing Group and the News America Publishing Group, including the New York Post and TV Guide.She is responsible for News America's legal affairs, supervising the work of the in-house legal department as well as that of outside counsel.In addition, she advises employees of News Corporation on intellectual property, employment law and Internet legal issues.
  
  Prior to joining News Corporation, Ms. Constantine was Deputy General Counsel for Macmillan, Inc., a multi-national conglomerate engaged in publishing, information services, and language instruction.Before her employment with Macmillan, Ms. Constantine was Deputy Chief of the Civil Division of the U.S. Attorney's Office.Previously, she worked at the New York Regional office of the Federal Trade Commission and, before that, at the Federal Trade Commission's Bureau of Consumer Protection in Washington, D.C.
  
  Ms. Constantine is a longstanding member of The Association of the Bar of the City of New York and is currently the Chair of the Committee on Communications and Media Law.She also serves on the Media Law Committee of the New York State Bar Association and is a member of the Board of Directors of The Feminist Press at CUNY.

  Jan Constantine, general counsel for the Authors Guild, said Google's program to copy millions of books and have them searchable by keywords is, plain and simple, copyright infringement.
  
  "Our position is they are copying the entire book.That's not fair use," she said."Copyright law was put on this earth so creators can have control over their creation.There are people in this world, believe it or not, who don't want their books online."
  
  The suit, filed in federal court in New York in 2005, is more than a year away from trial.Constantine said Beck "is disarmingly charming in the way Southern lawyers have.
