"Consumers want to use the appliances they already own--the television, computer, stereo, and phone," said Tim Collins, director of product development for Ucentric Systems, a company developing network software.The leading new service, he told the conference, will be a digital video recorder (DVR) connected to the network.It will allow consumers to watch, pause, and record the programming they want and to store programs they download from a central web site.Collins cited research showing that 60 percent of people who now own a DVR want it on every TV set in their house.

Instant messaging over the TV set.

Shared Internet access on all TV sets and computers in the house.

Tim Collins is now part of the Beach team and brings with him 25 years of experience in industrial product management.A native of Queens, NY, Tim spent a majority of his career with DuPont where he held various positions as a project engineer, product manager and product group marketing manager.In 1981, he joined the Burndy Corporation, a manfacturer of electronic components, as a regional sales manager and later vice president of the Component Products Division.

Tim Collins, director of product management, is responsible for directing the product strategy and design of the Ucentric software platform.For over 10 years, Collins has worked with high-tech and Internet technologies, providing a strong foundation for marketing a home networking solution.

Collins joins Ucentric from myteam.com, Inc., an Internet direct marketing company for the amateur sports marketplace.Prior to that, he worked for several years in the speech technology market in product management and marketing rolls at Voice Control Systems, formerly PureSpeech.Collins began his career at Symmetrix, a business re-engineering and information technology consulting firm, where he worked on projects for DuPont, CIGNA, and Fleet Bank, among others.

Collins received his bachelor's degree in management science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.).
