With the assistance of the LCBO's Tim Collins, product consultant at 1980 Bank St., eight wines were chosen, four examples from Canada and four from Australia. To make it more interesting, we picked four sets of two varietals - Riesling, Chardonnay, Merlot and Shiraz (Canada contributed a Baco Noir) - one of each from the two countries. And the wines in each set were also similarly priced. As for the judges, we started with the familiar Sun tasting panel which convenes every year to choose the best Nouveau wines and added one or two new palates. The judges included Bill Gordon, manager of Vineyards Wine Bar and Bistro; Suzanne Lafrance, chef and co-owner of Bistro 115; Paul Tretina, sommelier at Echo Wine Bar and Bistro; Karen Richardson-Norris, manager of the new LCBO store at King Edward and Rideau; and Tim Collins. -
