- Mets to interview Collins
...
Terry Collins, who presided over a clubhouse mutiny in Anaheim and hasn't managed in five years, became the latest candidate to interview with Minaya.
...
Collins, 55, hasn't been considered for a managerial opening since he angrily resigned from the Angels in 1999.
...
The relationship between Collins and his players grew toxic with several veterans going to management to protest plans to give the no-nonsense manager a contract extension.
Collins elected to resign at the end of the season.
"One thing I learned is not to take things so personally," Collins said."There are things I believe in.I want them to play the game right, do the best they can and for everybody to be on the same page. When that varied I took it personally, and I know I need to change that."
Collins, who is also a candidate in Seattle, is good friends with Red Sox pitching coach Dave Wallace, whom Minaya, the Wilpon family and assistant GM Jim Duquette all think highly of.
...
"I've checked out (Collins) and asked the questions.I'm satisfied with what I learned."
Collins is the third candidate to interview with the Mets, joining former Toronto manager Carlos Tosca and Texas hitting coach Rudy Jaramillo.
