Collins seeks seat on Baker Council District 5 Baker-Zachary bureau BAKER -- Sherri H. Collins is a candidate for the Baker City Council in the March 9 primary election from District 5.
"I believe Baker is a great place to live and is family oriented with many resources that can be utilized to promote its growth, along with a unified city government to enhance its unlimited possibilities," the 42-year-old Democrat said in her statement of candidacy.
Collins said she can identify with the needs of Baker residents as a working person, parent and homeowner.
She has been employed by the East Baton Rouge Parish school system for two years and previously worked in Lane Memorial Hospital's business office for 16 years.
A resident of Baker for 15 years, she is a member of the city's Planning and Zoning Commission.
"I feel that the quantity of work done is irrelevant to the quality of the job done and that longevity is not as essential as effectiveness that is everlasting," she said.
A graduate of Baton Rouge High School and Baton Rouge Commercial College, Collins attended LSU and now attends Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond.
She is vice president of the Baker Middle School Parent-Teacher Organization, president of the Meadows of Chaleur Home Association, sponsor of the youth ministry and member of the Pastor's Aide Committee at Little Rock Baptist Church in Slaughter and a member of Ruth No. 78, Order of Eastern Star, St. John Affiliate. -
