Our successful completion of an end-to-end SET transaction represents the first step toward offering a solution to our customers who want to securely shop on the Internet , says Rick Collins vice president of new product development for card services at NationsBank.
NationsBank used a branded IBM CommercePoint and the IBM Registry for SET certificate services , which enables a consumer to securely store and transmit credit card information to a merchant Web site over the Internet.
CompuServe Network Services has also developed a SET-based initiative with IBM to enable its merchant customers to complete Web-based sales and verify credit or debit cards. When a consumer makes an online purchase , his or her SET-encrypted card information and other digital certificates are sent to CompuServe Network Services' CommercePoint Gateway , CompuServe's Culver explains. We basically unwrap the SET piece , and put it into a message format that the bank expects to see. The bank looks at it , and authorizes it , and sends it back to our gateway.
