RAY COLLINS
Ray Collins is a reporter for FOX13 in the Sarasota/Manatee area and covers everything south of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge to Port Charlotte.Ray joined the FOX13 team in April of 2004.
Ray says it's been a goal of his to return to the Bay Area and work for FOX13 News since anchoring and reporting for Newsradio 970 WFLA in the late-1980's.Before moving back to the Gulf Coast in the spring of 2004, Ray spent the previous five years anchoring the 5:00, 6:00 & 11:00 p.m. news in Richmond.While in Virginia, Ray reported live from several major stories--including President George W. Bush's inauguration, the tragic sniper shooting spree in Virginia and from the devastation of Ground Zero.He also had a chance to be a panelist on several pivotal statewide political debates and report live from the Virginia Tech national championship game in New Orleans.Ray was a fill-in talk show host on news/talk radio station WMAL in Washington, DC--as well as for WRVA in Richmond.
Before moving to Richmond in 1999, Ray anchored the morning and noon news in his hometown of Buffalo.During his five years in Western New York, Ray traveled to Honduras with the Niagara Falls Air Reserves to deliver relief supplies to survivors of Hurricane Mitch.He also went behind the scenes of a CBS movie filmed in Toronto and he developed a weekly feature called "Rays of Hope" honoring unsung heroes in the community.
Ray began his television career in Southwest Florida where he went from Morning Anchor of the NBC affiliate in Ft. Myers to News Director/Main Anchor of a start up 10:00 p.m. newscast in Naples.He won the Associated Press award for Overall Excellence in Reporting in 1993.
Ray is a graduate of St. Bonaventure University in New York and spent part of his junior year interning on Capitol Hill.He also played college tennis in the NCAA Atlantic Ten division.
Ray has been active in dozens of charities over the years as a keynote speaker, master of ceremonies or board member.
