Peter Collins, Chief Executive of the Mentoring and Befriending Foundation announced that Home Office funding had now been secured to support infrastructure work in all of the nine government regions in the country.
He emphasised the importance of the revised national Approved Provider Standard and reported on the progress that the Foundation was making in developing a nationally accredited qualification framework for mentors and befrienders and highlighted the importance of establishing relationships and strengthening links with the Home Office, DfES, the Treasury, Volunteering England, Prince's Trust, Timebank, Do It, Befriending Network Scotland amongst others.
He further stated that the Mentoring and Befriending Foundation would be working with the Home Office supported Goldstar projects and expanding the role of the MBF's National Advisory Council.The MBF would also be looking at the role that mentoring could play within the National Offender Management Service, the sustainability of Job Centre Plus mentoring provision and the contribution mentoring would be paying as part of the post Russell Commission youth engagement strategy.
He summed up by stating, "Over the year ahead we have the potential to create opportunity for more to benefit from this type of support and where such opportunities already exist to work in partnership to make sure that they are the best they can be for the benefit of those involved."
