   Mr Peter CollinsPeter is a senior executive in the Qantas Airways Group, currently fulfilling the role of Regional General Manager, Australia Sales.
   
   Peter has extensive airline management experience, having worked internationally and domestically since joining Qantas in 1987.Peter has served as Country Manager in the Philippines, and Indonesia, and held Regional General Manager positions in South Australia and New South Wales, and also performed the role as General Manager Qantas Holidays, the largest wholesaler in Australia.
   
   Most recently, Peter has been Regional General Manager for New Zealand and the Pacific Islands, based in Auckland.While in New Zealand, Peter served as a board member on the New Zealand Tourist Industry Association and the New Zealand Inbound Tour Operators Council.Peter is a current alternate director on the board of Air Pacific.

   Transport Minister Mark Gosche is keen for competition to continue on the domestic routes and will speak to Qantas' New Zealand manager Peter Collins this afternoon.

   Ironically Mr Collins was unable to make the meeting in person because of difficulties with flights been Auckland and Wellington.Qantas can begin operating in New Zealand immediately because of an open skies agreement between this country and Australia.The Qantas franchise collapsed over the weekend.New Zealand's Regional General Manager for Qantas, Peter Collins, says talks have been going on in Sydney all weekend.He is hopeful an announcement on the future of the collapsed airline will be made in a couple of days.Peter Collins admits the public might have assumed the failed franchise was a part of Qantas's international operations.But he says it was a separate entity, and no part of the Qantas organisation, as such.Mr Collins says his sympathies go out to the 1100 employees who have lost their jobs.
