FLOOD BREAKFAST: Moruya State Emergency Service media officer Sandee Jackson and local controller Peter Collins will have the kettle boiled for you.
    ...
Local controller Peter Collins said Moruya businesses were more likely to suffer flood damage than fire.

Floods cost NSW about $128 million each year.

"They're doing [breakfasts] through a lot of areas where there are flood plains," Mr Collins said.

Mr Collins said Moruya River was one of only a few in NSW constantly monitored by the Bureau of Meteorology.

"It's a gauged river, the gauges are linked to the Bureau of Meteorology."

Should a flood arise, Mr Collins said Moruya would have roughly four hours warning. It's what to do during those four hours, and what to do to prepare for them, that the breakfast will focus on.

Main points for discussion are: how to prepare for a flood; what to do if flood occurs; and how the SES can help and warn people.

Mr Collins believed many in Moruya would benefit from the breakfast.

"Most of the CBD is flood prone; all of Ford, Queen and Vulcan street areas, and the north side of Moruya are very flood prone," he said.

Those at the breakfast would receive a free FloodSafe Toolkit.

The kit is designed to help businesses take action to minimise the risk that flood presents personal and business safety.

"Those who didn't get an invite are still most welcome, please RSVP on 132 500," Mr Collins said.
