   "It would have cost us about $1.4 million and we would have needed about 1,000 dump truck loads if we had milled it the conventual way," said Mike Collins, Department of Transportation engineering technical supervisor.

   Mike Collins of the Lee County Department of Transportation said that because this is a new type of resurfacing, he is keeping an eye on the project.
   
   "We are monitoring the road and checking the conditions monthly," Collins said. "We have been very pleased with the work so far and there are other projects we might be interested in using a company like this for."
   
   Collins says the road must be ideal for this type of machine resurfacing. Because of the type of heat and smoke the machines produce, a small residential road or narrow highway would probably not be workable.
   
   "There are a few roads like Corkscrew (in Estero) that this company would be perfect for," Collins said.
