Mr. Collins joined MR&D in June 2003.He has performed a variety of tasks involving finite element modeling to perform structural, thermal stress, heat transfer, random vibration, and acoustic analyses.Mr. Collins was involved with correlating measured results from the NASA Glenn Research Center Cell22 test rig with numerical predictions from the transient heat transfer analysis for the Linear Aerospike Engine CMC Nozzle Ramp.He also has worked on a U.S. Air Force project concerning the qualification of high thermal conductivity pitch based graphite fiber reinforced composite materials for thermal management of military electronics.Mr. Collins also performed modeling and analysis support to Northrop Grumman Space Technology (NGST) for ThermalGraphTM heat pipe saddles in a sandwich structure radiator panel. He also witnessed testing and correlated measured test results of hot structure control surfaces for the X-37 program.Mr. Collins has also worked on C-C hypersonic wing leading edge design and analysis.Additionally, Mr. Collins has worked on various projects with NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. These projects dealt with analysis of carbon-carbon (C-C) grids for the Carbon-Based Ion Optics (CBIO) program, the Nuclear Electric Xenon Ion System (NEXIS) program, and the Prometheus Program.

Recently, Mr. Collins has been working on Reinforced Carbon-Carbon (RCC) Wing Leading Edge (WLE) On-Orbit Repair concepts for the Space Shuttle Orbiter Return to Flight effort. This work has included the design and analysis of rigid refractory composite panels to completely cover the damaged RCC Leading Edge Subsystem and design and analysis efforts associated with the RCC WLE Plug Repair concept and RCC WLE Crack Repair concept.

Mr. Collins also serves as an adjunct instructor at Villanova University.
