Capt. Maurice Collins, community and family services program co-ordinator for the Salvation Army in Charlottetown, says he is concerned about falling short of this year's target of $125,000.
As of two days ago $80,000 had been collected, largely through the Army's kettle appeal.
Last year at this time the total was more than $85,000, said Collins, who is optimistic Islanders will make an extra effort on the last day of the appeal to fill kettles with cash and coins.
Kettles will be removed from all Island locations by 2 p.m. tomorrow (Saturday), Christmas Eve.
Collins said he had "no idea" why donations were down over the same period last year.
