Gordon Matthew Collins of Kirkland died March 27, 2004, at Evergreen Hospital in Kirkland. He was 79.
Mr. Collins was born Oct. 1, 1924 in Seattle. He graduated from high school in Redmond in 1943. Mr. Collins served in the Army 3180th Signal Corps from 1943 to 1946 on Okinawa. He married Gladys M. Boyd Collins on Aug. 29, 1947, and graduated from the University of Washington in 1949. An electrical engineer, he worked for General Electric in Schenectady, N.Y., from 1949 to 1955, then Anderson-Burke in Bellevue. -

Gordon was born in London, and his father died when he was three. His mother remarried when he was 8, and his stepfather, a boxer, encouraged Gordon to take up martial arts. Three years later Gordon's sister was born, and his step father lost interest in the care of Gordon. His stepfather took to blaming Gordon for every little problem, and punishments grew gradually harsher till he was beating Gordon. These punishments always took place when his mother and sister were out, and usually just after Gordon returned from a training session. At 16 Gordon joined the Army, entering the Royal Corps of Engineers after his basic training. Gordon trained as a Fabricator and Combat Engineer, and later moved to Bomb Disposal. After 10 years service Gordon left the Army. After a couple of short term commitments with 'security specialists', and a short time as a debt collector, Gordon drifted into a job as a bouncer. This is when he caught Odge's attention. Gordon treated people with a firm but fair hand, and organised with other nearby pubs and clubs a semi informal 'bouncer watch', which kept all the bouncers up to date with trouble makers, and able go to each other's aid if necessary. While waiting to see if Gordon should be recruited, a new demon called Jaffa tried to enter the club where Gordon was working, in order to deal. Gordon refused him entry, sensing something wrong, and after a some posturing Jaffa had to back down in the face of overwhelming force. A few days later Jaffa failed to ambush Gordon. In the ensuing fight Gordon got a couple of strong, early hits before Jaffa was able to perform Numinous Corpus:Plates. Odge joined the fight at this point and together they overwhelmed Jaffa, killing the vessel. Over a quiet drink Odge explained the War to Gordon, who agreed to join up. Gordon has started a company called 'Bouncer Watch', which is run on a non profit basis. The company is a combination of training agency, command and control center, data store and union for bouncers. BW provides intelligence data for the use of Odge and Gordon, and a few mundanes have been incorporated into an 'enforcer' unit.
