The 19-year-old student's acquaintances contacted campus police on Dec. 3, saying that a sexual assault may have occurred on the university's beach, which runs along the bay for the length of the campus, A&M-Corpus Christi spokesman Marshall Collins said.
The accused student came forward to police that evening to give a statement.Campus police learned on Dec. 5 that the girl - who does not attend the university - underwent a medical examination at an Austin-area hospital.She gave a statement to university police on Dec. 19.
Officials would not release either individual's name.Collins said officials are awaiting lab tests from the girl for alcohol and date rape drugs before passing on all the information to the District Attorney's office.
"He will determine where to go from there," Collins said.

Collins said the notices were not released until Monday because of the 17-year-old's delay in coming forward, the time that authorities needed to gather information, and the campus being closed for the winter break.Classes at A&M-Corpus Christi began Jan. 10.
Collins said officials informed students and staff through e-mail, campus fliers and regular mail at on-campus residences.
