   Cary Collins, an associate professor of finance at the University of Tennessee and director of the school's Financial Institutions Center, said the value of the one-year trial is hard to quantify, but is "very valuable" to a company trying to get off the ground.
   
   "Obviously, the benefit to the vendor is to have their product refined throughout the year and in the end to have a client they can use as a reference," Collins said.
   
   However, he continued, "There's also value to Knox County.

   Prior to his current position at The University of Tennessee, Dr. Collins served as the Director of the Financial Institutions Center at The University of Tennessee and a William B. Stokely Distinguished Scholar in Finance. Author of more than 25 publications and research papers, Dr. Collins has given more than 50 presentations and panel sessions on fair lending, credit scoring, consumer privacy and related topics. He has shared his research & spoken at conferences hosted by the Consumer Bankers Association, the Financial Management Association, the Southern Finance Association, the Western Finance Association, The Federal Reserve System, Information Quality at MIT, the European Financial Management Association, and the Financial Managers Society, among others. While on a two-year leave of absence from The University of Tennessee and working as a principal at ERS Group, Dr. Collins oversaw the development, marketing, partnering & strategic positioning of ERS Group's RiskExec® and IssueBase® products with financial services firms. In addition, Dr. Collins managed, or participated in, ERS Group consulting engagements in finance & commercial damages, with particular emphasis on lending & credit administration.
