   In his second year as lighting and production director for Central Christian Church, Henderson, NV, Josh Collins comes to his position from Nashville, TN, where he toured with large Christian rock venues. Working only 10 minutes away from the glitz and glamour of the Las Vegas Strip, his experience with large complex rock music productions is an asset in a city rife with light and high energy.
   
   "From my past experience, I know how tempting it can be to make the lighting a main attraction," says Collins.

   Collins uses a Ferrel 2000 lighting console for the 25 movable fixtures hung from trusses positioned as needed throughout the sanctuary.
   
   "We operate with higher energy than many churches," says Collins. "Our worshippers are people who work in the entertainment industries, we try to engage the senses and worship in a way that is relevant to their lives."
   
   For the past Christmas pageant, Collins applied his craft in a dramatic presentation that drew praise and comment for the impact it had on the congregation. In addition to the fixed system, Collins rented an extra 20 moving fixtures, two fiber optic curtains, and positioned 15 lit Christmas trees on stage. The programmed lighting plot for the expanded band and vocalists was far beyond what he plans for a normal service. "We wanted the pageant to come across as an authentic service in its meaning and intent," says Collins.
