John Collins confirmed the future plans to move SAC onto the first floor, and that revamping dB's was "definitely urgent", but was less certain after that: "The masterplan ... we will follow, but towards the end it will fizzle out" he said."There won't be a glorious end to it."

Following the censure of Deputy President (Graduate Students) Shama Rahman, and a related question from the Live! message board, John Collins' view was unequivocal: "The problem with the DP(GS) role is that it's a full time role ... and it's a sabb.

To be fair to John most of the NUS elections are no-brainers as they offer no real choice of candidates, its either the incumbent or some mad, raving marxist.

It is a shame though that a lot of our delegates will feel that they are not electing candidates on their own merits, but only because the alternative would be even worse.A choice between the left and the loony left isn't really a choice in my opinion.

Personally, I will probably vote for the candidates that John is supporting but I do reserve the right to RON anyone who I feel is shamelessly pandering to special interest groups.

One anonymous Union source described John Collins as "spineless" for allowing the second capitulation to College demands in the space of a week.

Some supporters of the governance review have also been scratching their heads, wondering what it achieved.

I for one did not know about this and am very saddened that another part of ICU's independace has been sold out by the weak and supplicating President John Collins.
    ...
All I've seen so far from Collins is excessive faffing about with reviews and handing power over to College.

Not really impressed I have to say.Not convinced he has done anything to make ICU more representative of its members as I believe he is happier to listen to (and will actively seek) the opinions of his personally selected cabal of advisers, but isn't really interested in what anyone else thinks.

    John Collins, on his bike

The bad weather sweeping parts of the country has claimed another victim, in the form of ICU President John Collins.Just six miles away from his starting point at Land's End, Mr Collins came off his bike and ended up in hospital. He is believed to have broken his arm in two places and badly bruised his ego.Reports suggest he is otherwise OK, having been rather concerned at what Live! would have to say on the matter, presumably worried we would satirise the event.

As a result of his accident Collins will be unable to complete the bike ride at present, however Live! would encourage all of you who have been laughing at his misfortune to donate online.

Mr Collins was undertaking the bike ride to raise money for the Beit Masterplan, with Sir Richard Sykes donating £1,000 and students raising another £700.Help was nearby as he was being followed by a support car - no Union minibuses driven by bitter hacks were believed to be in the area at the time.

We wish John a speedy recovery and once again ask you to donate online. He won't be as smug when he comes back, so it's money well spent.

John Collins returns to stoic tv's Ask The President, to answer more of students' questions about the Union. The two Johns. The two Johns.

Ask The President, stoic tv's topical Union debate show, is to return on Friday 9th February for its third edition.Presented by stoic tv Station Manager, John Anderson, the show allows students to send in their questions to be put straight to the Union President, John Collins, about the state of the Union and problems that have been faced since Christmas.

ICU President John Collins in the November edition

The last edition, filmed just before the Christmas holidays, focused on topics as diverse as the NHS and College and Union catering. However, much of the discussion was geared towards the NUS referendum, as the results had been announced just a week earlier. Both of the previous shows can be seen on the stoic tv website.

The January/February edition is being filmed on Tuesday 6th February, and should reach the stoic tv screens at lunchtime on Friday 9th, with a webstream available soon afterwards at www.stoictv.com.Any questions for John Collins should be sent to askthepresident@stoictv.com before Tuesday, or can be posted in the discussion below.

As an editor the SSP can be irritating, as it prevents going after an inept member of staff - however doing so would get "the union" (John Collins and probably me) sued anyway.
    ...
In short does John agree that SSP should be amended to provide these liberties?

Would this be related to not wishing to be sued for something I print, John?
    ...
In fact John Collins is the only president I have ever heard complain about it.The reason why remains a mystery to me.

My question for John Collins then stands at: "Why are you so worried about being sued"

Shortly afterwards, Live! has been told, ICU President and Returning Officer John Collins was seen "having a real go at exec members", appearing to be extremely upset. The atmosphere in the Union offices the next day has been described as "stony", with discussions held behind firmly closed doors.

When asked about this, Eric Lai (the deputy Returning Officer) told Live! that he was "unable to disclose the content of the meeting", and Mr Collins himself did not reply to Live!'s email at all. However, on Friday, the day after the meeting, candidates received an email re-affirming instructions that any elections queries should be emailed only to the "elections@imperial.ac.uk", and to no other address.

Since it is known that one presidential candidate incurred a fine earlier that same evening, it is possible that the meeting concerned election complaints - one of which, it seems, greatly incensed Mr Collins.

so..... what does this all mean? is Collins still Returning Officer?

John Collins, the ICU President, proudly sported a Guilds bow-tie and commented in a text message to a CGCU ex-president something along the lines of "I can hardly remember the last time I enjoyed myself as much".Great praise indeed.

Former ICU President John Collins is in the process of chasing sponsorship money from his bike ride. Great Outfit!Great Outfit!

Former ICU President John Collins is chasing up major donors to his fund-raising bike ride and has asked Live! to highlight the fact that he did in fact manage to deliver on a promise for once.Readers may recall that earlier this year he caused much hilarity by coming off his bike barely six miles into his John O'Groats to Land's End bike ride.

After surgery, therapy and recuperation (and whilst harbouring a bruised ego and an irrational fear of Cornish roads) Collins attempted this feat for a second time in early September.Without mentioning his plans to anybody, including his mother, he quietly made his way from John O'Groats to Land's End with few incidents and, this time, no injuries.

Describing this journey as "one of the hardest physical challenges I have ever undertaken", Collins competed his 928 mile journey in thirteen days and has recently published details of his journey on his cheesy website.

So far the fundraising effort has raised just over £1000, however Collins insists that over £2000 was pledged before the first attempt and he is in the process of bullying the likes of Sir Richard Sykes and Trevor Phillips to make good on their promises.College have so far failed to deliver their part of the funding for the redevelopment plan.

Rumours that current President Stephen Brown plans to upstage Collins by swimming the English Channel wearing nothing but a kilt are, as yet, unconfirmed.

I've said my fair share of harsh things about John in the past, but I have nothing but respect for him for going back and finishing the job he set out to do.

I just hope he manages to chase up the funds, and that people don't weasel their way out of this one.
