PARIS: Former New Zealand captain Jerry Collins is joining Toulon on a three-year contract, the French side said on their Web site (www.rctoulon.com) on Tuesday.

Flanker Collins became last month the latest in a series of high-profile players to say he was quitting the All Blacks.

The 27-year-old Collins made his debut for New Zealand in 2001 and played a majority of his 48 tests as blindside flanker, captaining the team three times. He scored five test tries.

Jerry Collins will take time to consider future

May 31 2008 by Our Correspondent, Western Mail

JERRY Collins, the legendary All Blacks flanker, will not decide his future until he returns home to New Zealand after playing for the Barbarians against England at Twickenham tomorrow.

'The Terminator' is top of northern hemisphere rugby's wanted list after securing an early release from his contract with the New Zealand Rugby Union, so ending his 48-cap international career.

Collins is adamant that all options are open - including quitting rugby altogether - but he will not be rushed into a decision.

He has been linked with Heineken champions Munster, European Challenge Cup winners Bath and a possible move to French giants Toulouse, among others.

But 27-year-old Collins stated: "It's all speculation.
    ...
Collins is so anxious not to be distracted from tomorrow's Gartmore Challenge against England that he said: "I left my mobile phone at home so I could come here and enjoy playing with these guys - but I suppose I'll have a lot of missed calls when I get back."

Insisting he is not ruling out the possibility that he could reject all rugby offers, he said: "I might go home and look in the mirror and not want to play rugby.

"It's always easy to do the same thing, but people change their work all the time.I suppose that's the scary part, but I've no regrets.I'm pretty happy with what I've achieved."

For now, Collins is adamant that his only focus is playing for the Baa-Baas in their 750th match since they began against Hartlepool Rovers in 1890 and he is relishing the return to Twickenham.

"It's always a pleasure to step on the holy turf," he said before warning new England manager Martin Johnson's experimental team: "I've never lost there and I've been four times."

To maintain that winning record the Baa-Baas will have to improve on Tuesday night's 34-19 defeat by Ireland at Gloucester - but they are reinforced by the considerable force of Collins, who missed that match having only flown in a few hours earlier.

"We didn't play up to our standard on Tuesday, but there are some good professionals in there.

"The venue and the occasion will mean it's not going to be very hard to get them up and motivated," he said as he promised an unfamiliar-looking England side a tough Twickenham outing before the formidable two-Test tour to New Zealand.

The All Blacks, like England, are rebuilding post-World Cup, but, despite the loss of big names Carl Hayman, Luke McAlister, Byron Kelleher, Doug Howlett, Chris Jack, Anton Oliver and Aaron Mauger to European clubs, Collins is confident their renowned production line will provide new stars.
