J.G. COLLINS, PhD, received his graduate training in pharmacology/neuroscience at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. His research interests have been focused on anesthetic and analgesic effects in the central nervous system with a particular emphasis on pain modulation and anesthetic mechanisms of action at the level of the spinal cord. Most recently his laboratory has been working on drug effects on the peripheral nervous system in the presence pain and itch. Dr. Collins is a Professor of Anesthesiology and Lecturer in Pharmacology at the Yale University School of Medicine. He also serves as the Chair of the Yale University Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee. Prior to becoming involved in IACUC issues Dr. Collins worked to educate the public about the use of animals in biomedical research. He served as the first chair of The Society for Neuroscience Committee on Neuroscience Literacy and as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Connecticut United for Research Excellence (CURE). -
