Panthers get Collins from Dallas
August 25, 2004 4:08:38 PM EST Panthers get Collins from Dallas
CHARLOTTE, N.C., Aug. 25 (UPI) -- The Dallas Cowboys have traded offensive tackle Javiar Collins to Carolina for a conditional draft pick in 2005. Collins worked out with the Panthers for the first time Wednesday. He had been acquired by his new team Tuesday when he was identified as one of the Cowboys' 'working parts' by Dallas Coach Bill Parcells. The Charlotte (N.C.) Observer reported the Panthers showed some interest in Collins during the restricted free agency period in the spring, but did not make an offer. League sources said the Panthers would get a seventh-round choice if the 6-6, 322-pounder stays on the roster for a certain amount of games. Collins joined the Cowboys as an undrafted rookie free agent from Northwestern in 2001 and will be a building block for refurbishing Carolina's depleted offensive line depth. -
