I wanted to share with you some information that Dr Collins from The Pregnancy Institute taught the staff at a Lecture he did on January 21st, 2002. He has continued to teach at many hospitals across the United States over the years. He did the Lecture on Umbilical Cord Accidents at the hospital that our son Aidan died at. We had suffered a complete placental abruption and uterine rupture during my labor with him and had an emergency c-sec when he went into distress that did not save his life. Unfortunately over an hour passed between the onset of Aidan's distress caused the order for the c-section and when the surgery was performed. Signs of Aidan's distress were evident during the last week of our pregnancy but dismissed by our physician.
It was such an honor to our son. Dr Collins is an amazing OB who has spent over 20 years doing stillbirth research. This man came from Louisiana to Minnesota for one day and taught these doctors and nurses and radiologists what to look for in every pregnancy and what to do when a baby is showing signs of distress. I wish that they had been taught prior to Aidan's death~ he would be here were it not for poor judgement and lack of experience on the medical professional's part. We found out over a year later that it was her first delivery- we'd been referred to her by our midwife when my blood pressure rose and preeclampsia set in.
...
Aidan had quite a few of the symptoms mentioned in Dr Collins' curriculum- quivering, localized pain on my uterus, and his movement patterns changed, decreasing noticeably.
...
These things were mentioned by me repeatedly to our physician, but again, dismissed as "normal"... the physician learned from Dr Collins that these were indeed not "normal" but signs of distress to be taken seriously to prevent a tragic outcome in pregnancy.
...
