They lived in Omaha until Elmer finished barber school in February 1948. They then moved to Loup City for two years, then to Ravenna for one year. In April 1951, they moved to Broken Bow to make their home and Elmer began barbering at the Ache Pain Barber Shop. In April 1955, they became the owners of the barbershop on the north side of the square. She started working at J.C. Penny,s when her youngest child started school. She then became a teller at the Broken Bow State Bank until she retired.

Mrs. Collins was a member of a Sewing Club, American Legion Auxiliary, Ladies Golf League and Couples Golf League. She became a 50-year member of the United Methodist Church in the summer of 2004.
