    Elaine Banks Collins Elaine Banks Collins has released the first two books in her four-book Read, Play and Learn series. ?See What I Can Do? records the special times that children share with family and friends. ?I Like Dressing Up? depicts the various reasons children dress up, including for special occasions or for play. Both books include tips parents can incorporate into their regular activities.

    Both books were introduced at the BookExpo America 2005, which was held in New York City from June 3-5. A local book signing event is currently being planned.

    Elaine Banks Collins is the Founder and President of EBC Education Services Inc. and a consultant with the Black Child Development (BCDI). She works specifically with BCDI?s Early Childhood Leadership Mentoring Project. Elaine is the former Director of Early Childhood Education for the New York City Agency for Child Development and former Associate Director of Program for the Sesame Street Preschool Education Program. She is also the recipient of the National Council of Negro Women?s Legacy Lady Award.

    Elaine Banks Collins

    Elaine Collins was born and raised in Harlem where she attended P.S. 125 and J.H.S. 43 (now know as Adam Clayton Powell). Throughout her youth, she attended the after school program located in her junior high school.

    When she was eleven years old she signed up as a counselor-in-training, working with the seven year old group in the summer program. She has been a counselor, school-age teacher, day care director, and in 1981 became the first person to hold the title of School-Age Specialist in the country. As The School-Age Specialist for The Agency for Child Development (ACD) of New York City she wrote and implemented the policies and standards which are still being used as the benchmark for quality in the administration of publicly funded school-age programs in New York City .

    In 1989 Ms. Collins became the Director of Child Development supervising the infant/toddler, pre-school, family day care, school-age, special needs and limited purchase of service programs funded by ACD.

    From1992 until 1996 she was the Associate Director for Staff Development and Training for The Community Education Division of The Children's Television Workshop (CTW) in New York City.

    Currently Ms. Collins resides in Atlanta Georgia . She has founded and is president of EBC Education Services, a private consultant firm that is currently working with several school age delivery systems such as The Fulton County Department of Parks and Recreation, Atlanta Public School System, The YMCA and other state and county offices to ensure the delivery of high quality after school services to youth between the ages of 5 and 18.

    Elaine Chairs the Service Committee for the Atlanta Affiliate of The National Black Child Development Institute and is a national advisor to The National School-Age Care Alliance (NSACA) Third Circle Project in Atlanta Georgia . As a previous member of the NSACA's Accreditation Advisory Committee she is one of the writers of The National Standards for School-Age Programs.

    She has a BA Degree from Hunter College and MS.Ed from The City University. She has received numerous awards, including outstanding commitment from the ACD School-Age Sub Committee and The Mary Bethune Legacy Lady Award from the Northeast Bronx Chapter of The Negro Council of Negro Women
