Deval L. Patrick appointed five new trustees, including two Springfield residents, Henry M. Thomas III, the president and CEO of the Urban League of Springfield, and Edward W. Collins Jr., a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers AFL-CIO and CLC.

Collins, a former member of the Board of Trustees at Westfield State College, was named to the labor seat on the board.

Collins also said he was honored by the appointment."I think there are some challenges there.I'm looking forward to being part of that," he said.

Patrick's new appointees are Ed Collins, a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers AFL-CIO; Phillip Johnson, a health and human services consultant, former chairman of the Mass. Democratic Party and UMass Amherst alumnus; Henry Thomas, president and CEO of Urban League of Springfield and Dr. Kerri Osterhaus, an obstetrician/gynecologist and UMass Medical School alumna.
