Franklin resident Donald H. Collins, 81, died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, at Franklin Nursing Center in Franklin.
Services are 2 p.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church in Macon with the Revs. Baron and Nancy Cole officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to noon Monday at Hutchins Funeral Home in Franklin and 1 p.m. until services Monday at the church.
Mr. Collins was born Dec. 31, 1919, to Frank and Josie (Cass) Collins in Beaver City. He graduated from Beaver City High School in 1937. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. On July 17, 1949, he married Alice Jelken at Zion Lutheran Church in Macon. He worked as a mechanic and had driven a propane truck for CO-OP. He retired in 1984.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 5757, and American Legion Post No. 209. He also was a former member of the Franklin Volunteer Fire Department.
Survivors are his wife ; two sons, William of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Douglas of Pensacola, Fla. ; one sister, Clarice Sturtevant of Franklin ; and three grandchildren.
