"California today is the setting of a demographic revolution," says Dennis A. Collins, President & CEO of the Foundation. "By some estimates, the state no longer has a majority population, and projections are that it will only get more diverse. Yet higher education in the state hasn't reflected that diversity as well as it should. These grants will help make sure the students, faculty and curriculum at independent colleges look more like and better serve California's multiethnic mix, and that all students learn to be effective citizens in a diverse society."
Topping the latest set of grants is a $2 million investment in Occidental College in Los Angeles -- the largest grant Irvine has ever made to a liberal arts college.
