  This workshop will be conducted by David Jarret Collins, President of the Data Capture Institute.He is widely acknowledged as the founder of the bar code industry and holds patents on a number of the earliest inventions in automatic data collection.In 1968, he founded Computer Identics Corporation, the first company to develop and market bar code products and systems.He is co-founder of the Automatic Identification Manufacturers, Inc. (AIM/USA) trade association.He lectures frequently, and is author of the book Using Bar Code--Why It's Taking Over.

  David is Chairman of A2B Tracking Solutions and author of the popular book, "USING BAR CODE - Why It's Taking Over."In the mid-1960s he was project manager for the original bar code scanner system, KarTrak, at Sylvania/GTE.His travel to the far corners of the globe in pursuit of bar code's early adoption has contributed to his reputation as "father" of the bar code industry.He was founder of Computer Identics Corporation, the first company to design and manufacture bar code scanning equipment, and as head of Data Capture Institute he designed the Bar Code Asset Tracking System (BCATS) for the Federal Aviation Administration.A frequent lecturer and keynote speaker, David holds numerous bar code-related patents and has received many honors for his work.He served on the initial DoD Integrated Product Team (IPT) for the UID initiative.

  In 1959 David J. Collins earned his master's degree and went to work for the Syvania Corporation, whilst they were researching military applications for computers, Collins had his mind on a new venture.He had previously worked for The Pennsyvania Railroad and knew that there was an urgent need to create a system that could identify, track and handle the gathered information relating to the movement of freight cars.
