Station Officer Michael Collins, of Cowcaddens Station, said they had around 50 firefighters on site at the height of the blaze. He said: "When we arrived all we could see was thick black smoke and very few flames. "We were able to extinguish the fire from inside the building and have been concentrating on small pockets where we know the fire is still burning away. "We initially feared that the fire may have spread to the roof space, however we have had a thorough search and we are confident it has been contained." He said investigations will be carried out but it was likely that the top floor office would be out of use for some time.
