Curtis Collins Curtis Collins is an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of California, Riverside. He received the B.S. degree in bioengineering in 1990 from the University of California, San Diego. He received the M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1993 and the Ph.D. degree in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering in 1997 from the University of California, Irvine. He joined UC Riverside in 1998 after teaching mechanical design and performing research in multi-limb robot manipulators at the California Institute of Technology.

Dr. Collins' research interests include the design of multi-limbed robotic systems such as parallel manipulators and multi-fingered hands. He is also interested in the design of human-machine interfaces for virtual reality and rehabilitation engineering. Dr. Collins coordinates the Senior Capstone Design in Mechanical Engineering. The course represents a major design experience for ME students and requires them work in teams to conceptualize, analyze, and fabricate a prototype system to solve a specialized problem. He is working closely with the Riverside County Youth Museum to develop design projects for use as museum exhibits for educating grade school students about science and technology.
