   The Shangri La Brisbane Strikers are delighted to announce the appointment of Craig Collins as Head Coach for the 2007 season.
   
   Craig's appointment continues a successful tradition for the Strikers in developing experienced players into coaches, having enjoyed great success with Frank Farina and Stuart McLaren in the past.

   The Strikers CEO, Steve Wilson, said Craig was an obvious choice for the Board.

   Craig has enjoyed a distinguished playing career and is still playing some of his best football.He has received many honours in the game including an amazing run of being selected as a Queensland Representative from 1988 to 2004.He has also won the prestigious Clem Jones Gold Medal, been part of many Premiership and Championship winning teams and played National League with the Strikers.
   
   Craig is honoured and thrilled with the challenge of taking on the role of Coach, and playing such a vital role in the future development of the Youth Programmes at the Club.He is confident that a strong team will be wearing the Strikers colours in Season 2007, and has hit the park running with several key players already agreeing to terms.Craig will continue playing while his body and form permits.

   The Brisbane Strikers will be without the services of three key players - defender Adam Webber, player-coach Craig Collins and prolific goal scorer Reece Tollenaere - as they prepare to negotiate a potentially bumpy road trip away to Peninsula Power on Saturday afternoon in their opening Premier League fixture.

   Collins and Webber are obliged to serve suspensions picked up at the end of last season, while Tollenaere was given the sickening news this week that the ankle injury that forced him off the field in last weekend's 4-0 Silver Boot win against University of Queensland could keep him out of football for up to 12 weeks.

   "We will play our usual game", Collins said on Wednesday."Every game this season will be tough, because our opposition will want to knock off the Premiers.We've got to be on the top of our game all the time.We'll take it to them - home or away this season, we'll be trying to win".
   
   Collins said he had "pretty much settled" on his starting eleven, but admitted that one brainteaser he was grappling with was who to start on the left side of midfield.
   
   "The left midfield spot is really between Luke Noble and Russell Woodruffe", he said.

   Collins admitted that the countdown towards his first coaching assignment in a competitive fixture is giving him a few butterflies in the stomach - a factor not helped by the prospect of having to watch the entire spectacle from the sidelines.
   
   "I had to do that against Palm Beach, and it was quite nerve-wracking then", said Collins."As a player, at least you can do something about the situation on the field, but you can't do as much from the dugout.I'm not really too keen on that", he joked.
   
   The new Strikers coach said he was expecting a hot reception from the Power, who are likely to play out of their skins in their first Premier League fixture.The Strikers' 3-0 win over the Power a fortnight ago would, he said, mean little on Saturday.
   
   "I think they will be a bit more physical", Collins said.
