Charles E. Collins, who will leave his post as an investigator with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) to take over as the agency's South Region bagged Officer of the Year honors during the transition.
The Marine Industries Association of Florida presented the honor to Collins in a 6 p.m. ceremony Wednesday at the Capitol in Tallahassee.
As a law enforcement officer, Collins is internationally renowned for pioneering the use of Global Positioning System units in tracking the movements of vessels involved in boating accidents, smuggling and resource investigations.He is a recognized expert in boating safety and boating accident, theft and fraud investigations.He has served as a law enforcement officer and investigator for 19 years with the FWC and its predecessor agencies.
April 9, Collins will assume his new post as FWC regional director for the 10-county area headquartered in West Palm Beach.His job duties include coordinating the efforts of biologists, law enforcement officers and support staff who study and protect the state's fish and wildlife resources.
The 49-year-old Collins has a master's degree from Florida Atlantic University in crisis management and a bachelor's degree in professional administration from Barry University.Collins and his wife, Sherri, have three children. -
