Charles P. Collins Managing Director, Global Strategic Alliances As Managing Director, Global Strategic Alliances, Mr. Collins oversees and manages elcom, inc.'s global business alliance strategies and implementations. Mr. Collins began his career in international business in 1976 working in Mexico City, Mexico as an executive programs developer with the Mexican Federation of Professionals. Upon returning to the United States in 1978, Charles worked with a number of management consulting firms for the next six years, in the areas of manufacturing productivity improvement, and office automation.
In 1984, he was one of the first professionals in America, to establish commercial electronic marketplaces for vertical trading communities in cooperation with a variety of industry trade associations including the Boston Bar Association. In 1987, Charles was a founding member of the International Business Network, which over the next 10 years would electronically link internationally active businesses across 100 countries through their national and local Chambers of Commerce. This work eventually transformed into the World Chambers Network - the Internet's official destination for the more than 10,000 chambers of commerce worldwide.
During this same period, he spent 5+ years working with the international trade finance group of Standard Chartered Bank, one of the world's top trade finance banks based in London, linking their internationally active customers in more than 700 offices in 67 countries, into a trusted trading community.
In 1989, Charles was part of the team which pioneered the first commercial use of the Internet in America under special grant from the National Science Foundation, in the establishment of BioTechNet: an information and commercial web- portal serving the biotechnology industry.
Charles is a 1976 honors graduate of Emerson College, Boston, with a degree in Business & Political Communications, with post-graduate work in Intercultural Communications at Georgetown University in Washington DC. -
