   Barrie spent his early career in various finance roles in the oil industry, both overseas (New Zealand, Nigeria) and in the UK (Edinburgh, London). This gave him commercial, project and computing experience and a spell as CFO of a small listed company. He moved into consulting with KPMG (at that time Peat Marwick Mitchell), initially working on projects for major corporates but soon getting involved in government reform programmes. He spent 17 years as a partner; held responsibility for services to central government (1985-91); led the successful turnaround of a runaway £multimillion project (1991-1994), which included reorganising KPMG's in house IT function; and was successively practice lead partner for manufacturing (1994-1998), resource management (1998-2000), and for risk and quality management (2000-2002). He ran his own consulting business for a short time, working on a number of buy in opportunities, and joined the Change Partnership in 2004.
   
   Barrie is a non executive director and member of the audit committee of Springboard Housing Association; a trustee and Honorary Treasurer of CPRE (the Campaign to Protect Rural England); First Warden and Treasurer of The Worshipful Company of Management Consultants; and a trustee and Honorary Treasurer of The City Centre for Charity Effectiveness Trust Limited.
   
   He enjoys the arts (theatre, music, opera, paintings and antiques) and keeping fit (running, gym, gardening, hill walking), and is slowly getting reconciled to the idea of being a grandfather.
   
   Professional Expertise
   
   Barrie has worked with boards and senior managers for most of his career, frequently running teams of consultants. As well as helping clients with major projects and change initiatives, he has also run in house processes for a large professional services firm. As Chief Operating Officer of Praesta he has responsibility for our infrastructure and seeing that we are geared up with outstanding (and wherever possible invisible) back office arrangements.
