FBI agents question Collins in sludge-hauling deal
...
Collins said the agents spent about 15 minutes with her. They told Collins that her name had come up in a taped conversation between two people they are investigating who intimated that Collins had been paid off.
"They implied I was angry because I didn't get any money out of it," Collins said.
She said the FBI agents told her that one of the people said something similar to: "Barbara-Rose Collins is very mad at you because you haven't given her anything."
And the other person under surveillance said that it wouldn't be a problem because Collins was "taken care of."
"I said that's a lie," Collins said.
She would not reveal to The Detroit News the pair's identity but did say one was a former city official and the other has never worked in city government.
Agents also told her she was not a "target or suspect" but that she was a "subject."
Asked if she was worried if any of her staff did anything improper, she said no and that "I have a good staff."
Collins has always maintained support for the Synagro deal, saying it would save the city money and would improve the environment.

Collins said the agents told her that the investigation would be wrapped up by September or October.
Collins joked earlier in the day about rumors that the FBI investigation -- and not a lighting strike -- is the real reason why the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center is shut down.
"Seems to be the FBI should be done with it by now," Collins said after asking when the building would reopen.
