   VICTORIA - Andra Collins has joined the Victoria County field office of the Natural Resources Conservation Service as a soil conservationist.

   Collins, a native of Houston, is part of a training program, according to Leroy Mikeska, district conservationist.

   The Victoria office works in Victoria, Calhoun and Jackson counties, and Mikeska said Collins will help in all facets of conservation work for the farmers and ranchers in those counties.

   Collins said she became interested in soil conservation work after serving as an intern with the NRCS.
   
   A graduate of Bellaire High School, Collins said her involvement with the school's FFA program "really changed my life. If it wasn't for that, I wouldn't be in this field today."
   
   Collins, who received her bachelor of science degree from Prairie View A&M, expects to graduate in May from Sam Houston State University with a master's degree.
