    Dr. Collings was a graduate of Virginia Tech University and the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry in Chapel Hill. He started his practice in Newton in 1981. He was a graduate of the Pankey Institute in Florida and has served as a deputy dental examiner for the N.C. Board of Dental Examiners. He was a member of the N.C. Dental Society, the Foothills Dental Continuum and the Western Piedmont Dental Society. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Newton. He had been active in the American Heart Association, was a volunteer for the Green Room and was on the board of directors for Catawba Country Club. He was a member of the Miata Club of America and a former member of the Newton Lion's Club. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother and was a faithful friend. He served his patients with dedication and passion. He loved to ski and golf and enjoyed many hours sailing with his father.

    Surviving are his wife, Debbie Stone Collings of the home; two daughters, Sumer Woodle and her fiance, Craig Christenbury of Mooresville and Caiti Collings of the home; a son, Matthew Collings, a student at Western Carolina University, father and mother, Douglas and Thomasine Collings of Charlotte; sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Rick Smith of Charlotte; two brothers, Mike Collings of Charlotte and Peter Collings of Bowie, Maryland; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Stone of Old Fort; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ray and Jan Allison of Asheville and Sam and Susan Stone of Gainesville, Ga.; uncles and aunts, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Kelley of Enfield, Conn., Mr. and Mrs. Ray Kelley of Shrewsbury, Mass. and Bill Collings of Walstonburg; nieces and nephews, Jared Stone, Jenna Stone, Aislin Smith, Tommy Smith, Michael Smith and his large family of patients.
