    Blackpool Pleasure Beach in northern England was the top free attraction -- drawing 6.8 million visitors -- followed by the British Museum with 5.46 million visits and the National Gallery with 4.89 million visits.

    The tourism authority said the release of the 2000 figures was delayed by a change in the methodology used in their collation.It plans to have the 2001 figures out in the British summer.
