Nancy Sher Cohen joined the firm in 1991 and is former co-chair of the firm's Insurance Recovery Practice Group.She practices in the area of insurance coverage, mass tort, toxic torts, class actions, product liability, and general commercial litigation.From 1998 to 2003, she was the Co-Chair of the firm's Product Liability Practice Group.
Experience
Nancy Sher Cohen has been lead counsel in prosecution of several insurance coverage lawsuits related to environmental and product liabilities resulting in recoveries in excess of $1 billion.Her extensive insurance coverage practice has included first party claims involving business interruption, third party claims involving reimbursement for environmental liabilities and, prosecution of claims by Holocaust survivors against insurance carriers who failed to pay life insurance benefits.She is lead counsel for the lender on the World Trade Center towers in prosecuting claims for insurance coverage for the towers.She is regularly listed as a leading insurance coverage attorney in Chambers USA which described her as "exceptional" and "highly experienced."The publication ranked the firm's insurance practice as the number one position in California.
Ms. Cohen has extensive experience, including pretrial and trial, in state and federal courts handling mass tort and complex multi-jurisdiction tort actions.Ms. Cohen also has extensive experience as lead counsel in toxic tort cases.She has represented chemical suppliers in actions brought by Lockheed Skunkwork and IBM employees for personal injuries allegedly resulting from exposure to toxic chemicals in the work place.She has also defended claims brought by nearby residents to a military ordnance manufacturing and test facility for personal injuries allegedly resulting from fumes.Ms. Cohen also defends biotechnology companies in lawsuits arising from clinicals trial of investigational new drugs.
She has also represented talent in entertainment litigation, including representation of Clint Eastwood in the trial of Locke v. Eastwood and David E. Kelley in copyright litigation.Ms. Cohen was Deputy General Counsel for the Rampart Independent Review Panel, which was charged by the Los Angeles Police Commission with performing a review of the Los Angeles Police Department.
From 1995-1999, Nancy held the position of Managing Partner of the Los Angeles office.The first woman to head this office, she was responsible for the overall operation and served as a member on the Policy Committee of the firm.She has been a firmwide practice group chair from 1999 to the present.
