  March 28, 2003 (Ottawa) - Leslie Coates, the owner and president of Manotick Travel & Cruise Centre, located in a small town just south of Ottawa, has been awarded the 2002 Ottawa Business Women Network's Business Achievement award.This award acknowledges leadership, entrepreneurship and community involvement among the businesswomen of Ottawa.
  
  Ms. Coates founded Manotick Travel in 1979.Today the agency employs nine people and specializes in high-end travel, with a client base of 5,000.Leslie is famous for remembering clients' travel preferences and needs.She even sends her customers birthday cards and keeps a record of when their passports will expire.
  
  According to Ms. Coates: "It is a great honour to have won the 2002 Businesswoman's Achievement Award and especially to represent the travel industry at a time when positive attention for our industry is so desperately needed."

  From 22 nominees 5 finalists were chosen in February and the winner was announced the night of the gala.
  
  Leslie & her staff of 9, focus on supplying luxury trips and cruises to an upscale clientele. Corporate and incentive travel for executives and professionals are also major business components of this unique travel agency. Two years ago Manotick Travel & Cruise Centre won the Greater Ottawa Chamber of Commerce bronze Business Achievement Award for "Small Business of the Year".

  Leslie Coates has been named the City of Ottawa's Top Business Woman of the year by the Women's Business Network (WBN).
  
  At a gala supper to present the top business-achievement awards last Thursday, Ms. Coates, president and owner of Manotick Travel and Cruise Centre, was singled out for her achievements from among five finalists selected earlier by a nominating panel.
  
  Ms. Coates was initially nominated by employee Rona Schuler and said she had no inkling she was even in the running until she received a congratulatory message from the WBN in the mail.
  
  Beyond commercial success and her proven track record, Ms. Coates said that testimonials from clients, colleagues and the community were vital to her being honoured.
  
  The testimonials that poured in on her behalf are just one indication of the high esteem in which she is held by several diverse groups.
  
  In the end, the judges heard glowing praise from a host of clients, local service providers, a national supplier, professional colleagues, her entire staff and a workplacement student.
  
  Praise for her community service came from the Greater Ottawa Chamber of Commerce and the Manotick Business Improvement Area.
  
  The latter wasn't the only sign of local support for Ms. Coates.Beyond the individual honour to Ms. Coates, there were other signs that the entire Manotick business community basked in her success.
  
  More than 50 people paid to fill six corporate tables at the gala and offer their support, and then their applause, when Ms. Coates copped the top award.
  
  Ms. Coates is the third woman from this area to win this honour, an indication of just how active and involved local business women are in their community.
