David Climenhaga, communications director for the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees, agreed.
"It's outrageous," he said Friday.
"When the clinic was arranged (for the Flames), the message was clearly being communicated to Alberta Health Services personnel that all Albertans, even high-paid hockey players, should get immunized ASAP," wrote Climenhaga in his blog after the first firing.
He said the employee's action "would merit no more than a delicate tap on the wrist" and said the actual punishment was "public vilification by high government officials."
"This was never a routine matter of discipline, but was from the start a case of political scapegoating intended to misdirect public attention away from the breathtaking incompetence, spectacular mismanagement and remarkable mean-spiritedness of the Alberta government and AHS managers," Climenhaga wrote.
