Nancy joined the Animal Welfare Program in September, 2004.She strongly supports and values the important role of companion animals in our society.Because the aggressive behaviours of dogs have so much potential to cause damage-to people, to dogs and to the relationship between them-Nancy's research interest is the prevention of canine aggression.
With a graduate degree (MSW) in community and organizational development, Nancy has used her professional skills to advocate on behalf of people living with disabilities.A former member of the Board of Directors of the Pacific Assistance Dogs Society, Nancy has an ongoing interest in the assessment and training of assistance dogs.A volunteer since 1997, Nancy serves on the Provincial Advisory Board and the National Advisory Council of the St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog Program.
Nancy is an avid dog trainer and exhibitor in several canine sports.She is a member of the Canadian Kennel Club, the Greater Vancouver Dog Sport Association, Fast-Track Agility Club and the BC Stock Dog Association and is currently training a young German Shepherd Dog, "Britta", and a four-year-old Border Collie, "Caity"."Tucker" (Ch. & OTCh.Bakerbay Spirit of Orion WCX) her eleven-year-old yellow Labrador Retriever, now retired from competition, still presides over the household.
When not working dogs or instructing dog obedience classes, Nancy enjoys riding her Peruvian Peso, "Amante" (dogs in tow) in the backwoods of Shawnigan Lake on Vancouver Island.
