Mr. Claus earned a Bachelor Degree in Mathematics and Engineering-Physics from the Pacific Lutheran University of Seattle, Washington.From 1972 - 1998, he was a Vice-President and Director of Howard Johnson & Company, a national employee benefits and actuarial consulting firm which was purchased by Merrill Lynch in 1998.Mr. Claus is a Fellow of the American Society of Pension Actuaries (ASPA), a Past Director of ASPA, and a Member of the Joint Board for the Enrollment of Actuaries.Currently, Mr. Claus is an owner and officer of Premier Canadian Properties, a Vancouver real estate firm that is affiliated with Sotheby's International Real Estate.

Mr. Claus has been very active in the Rotary Club of Lake City (Seattle) since 1979.He was the Club President in 1988/1989 and in 1999-2000, the District Area Representative for three years, the District Chairman of Club Service, and the District Chairman of Community Service.
