According to Bear River Casino Table Games Manager Joe Claus, a Blue Lake Casino manager asked that Claus encourage defectors to give at least a one-month notice instead of the standard two weeks out of professional courtesy. He said his concern is that Bear River Casino does not open until Aug. 10 and new employees will have to work for a month before the pay cycle kicks in -- a long time to wait to pay for food, bills and rent.
"Most of these people were model employees who had won awards and never been sick a day," Claus said."When manager Clint Rebik and I spoke, he promised me that Blue Lake Casino would not retaliate against them."
Der Xiong said he was one of those model employees and he was proud to work for Blue Lake, but because he needs better benefits for his family and wanted new opportunities, he chose to go to Bear River.
"I know that if I was quitting to go work at any other type of job, they wouldn't be doing this," he said.
