ADELAIDE have suffered a huge blow with veteran ruckman Matthew Clarke announcing his retirement today.

Clarke played 248 games, beginning with Brisbane where he played 130 games before joining Adelaide at the end of the 1999 season.

Clarke won the Best and Fairest for Brisbane in 1997 and he played in four State-of-Origin games for South Australia.

FOLLOWING fine playing careers for Adelaide, Ben Hart and Matthew Clarke have joined the Crows' coaching panel.

After playing a combined 258 AFL games as a ruckman for the Brisbane Bears/Lions, Adelaide and St Kilda, Clarke will be a part-time ruck coach.
