Clarke joined Cappello & Noël in 2002. He represents plaintiffs in insurance bad faith, construction defect, business, intellectual property, product liability and other complex litigation matters. He co-tried the firm's longest trial, which lasted 11 months and resulted in a multimillion-dollar judgment in a construction defect case. He has also tried cases involving legal malpractice, accounting malpractice, real estate transactions and investments.

Attorney Matt Clarke, of Cappello & Noel, said the settlement with St. Paul Travelers, headquartered in St. Paul, Minn., brings to almost $17 million the amount gained so far by the owners association at the East Beach complex.

Mr. Clarke said this case is working its way through the depositions and discovery process and is scheduled for trial in Santa Barbara Superior Court in January.

Meanwhile, appeals over the 2003 court verdicts are heading to the 2nd District Court of Appeal in Ventura.
