Tor Clark has left the editor's chair of one of Britain's oldest newspapers, the Rutland & Stamford Mercury, to help set up a new journalism degree at De Montfort University in Leicester.
Clark, 38, had been editor of The Mercury since 2001 and took up his new position as senior lecturer in journalism last month. Between now and September he will be working on the new three-year joint honours degree, ready for the first students arriving in the autumn.
Before editing The Mercury, Clark had spent three-and-a-half years as editor of its sister paper, the Harborough and Lutterworth Mail, where he had previously been deputy editor.
Clark said his proudest moment as editor of the Rutland & Stamford Mercury came when it was shortlisted for the Weekly Newspaper of the Year Award at Press Gazette 's sponsored Regional Press Awards in 2003.
