Timothy Clark, who has been theatres and halls manager for the University of New England for the past 14 years, has retired after a 21-year association with the university.
Mr Clark, who began his career in the theatre by gaining a Diploma in Technical Theatre from the National Institute of Dramatic Art, was also employed as technical officer within UNE's School of English, Communication and Theatre.
After going to school in Armidale and studying in Sydney, his career eventually took him to Canberra, where he worked for the Human Veins Dance Theatre and then Theatre ACT.
He returned to Armidale as technical director and set designer for the New England Theatre Company, becoming well known throughout the New England region as a theatre designer.
He has a long list of credits for set and lighting design.
In 2002 Mr Clark received a UNE Vice-Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Service, being recognised for (among other things) his professionalism and time-management skill, and his development of documentation for the hiring of halls and spaces at the university.
"His commitment is exemplary, involving of necessity a great deal of after-hours work, front and back-of-house theatre management and coordination, and a level of communication expertise that frequently involves diplomacy under pressure," the citation read.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ingrid Moses, recalled the award when speaking at a farewell function for Mr Clark.
...
Associate Professor Dugald Williamson, Head of the School of English, Communication and Theatre, said 'the students - particularly those in Theatre Studies - understand the enormous contribution Tim has made."
...
Mr Clark said that he would miss the university 'family.'
"But there are things I want to do ... places I want to go," he said. -
